we have started doing projects on a universal programmer that supports most of the chips available over our market and surely a lots of engineering student as well as electronics hobbiest like them. It's (neproga) target is to build a simple and interesting hardware as well as programmer software. The programmer software is of two types one the computer runs and next the programmer itself. ! the programmer itself ! ha ha it's even including a microcontroller which is being programmed to solve the chip programming solution. The hex file we will send to programmer and the programmer interprets to it's type of chip.
Basically we were concerntrated on pics (like 16f84, 16f877, etc), atmel chips like ( 89c51, 89s52, etc) , i2c eeprom ( like 24c02, 24c08 etc), eeprom (like 27c002, etc) microwire ( like 93lc46 ). The main feature of this programmer is that anyone can modify with their requirement. This even enables the capabilities of emulating their program for the chips. This time only 89cxx and 89sxx were supported nearly we'll even port system to other chips.
